
Heejung lee
soprano
Heejung Lee is a Korean soprano with a compelling stage presence and deep musical sensitivity. She earned her Master’s degree in voice from the Bard College Conservatory of Music on a full scholarship, after completing her Bachelor of Music degree at Seoul National University, the most prestigious music school in Korea.
Heejung has participated in several renowned summer programs, including Chicago Summer Opera, Chautauqua Opera, Santa Fe Opera, and Manhattan Opera Studio, where she studied and performed a wide range of operatic roles.
In 2014, she won the New York Riverside Opera Competition and performed in Staten Island, and in the same year, she took first place in the Barry Alexander & Buono International Vocal Competition, making her Carnegie Hall debut in the winners’ concert. In 2016, she was awarded second prize in the Manhattan International Vocal Competition, which led to her signing with MCA Management. In 2020, she won the Grand Prize in the Metropolitan Vocal Competition. She was also a finalist in the Montserrat Caballé International Singing Competition held in Spain in 2021.
In 2023, Heejung made her major U.S. opera company debut in the lead role of Singa in I Am a Dreamer Who No Longer Dreams with Tri-Cities Opera and Syracuse Opera, receiving acclaim for her powerful interpretation and heartfelt performance.
In her native Korea, Heejung won first prize in the Korea Music Association Competition, and the Sungjung Music Competition, among several other major national competitions.
